Destiny by adamt4050 Destiny by adamt4050
Here I tried to give a outstanding sense of scale, and beauty, to really show 'destiny' as I though a lot of space art was about a beginning or a end, so I decided to make something that brightens your day just to look at it.

I also focused a lot on colour, lighting and detail, I feel as I have made something that is obviously a fantasy but also realistic in its own right.

I dont use to many built in effects.
Mainly i use lens blur, box blur and Gaussian blur.
I also use noise quite often - the rest is just free hand art and blending modes.

Agreed; love the colors and lighting. Great detail on the planets also. What kind of stock was used? Is this just a photo-manip or what?

Thanks! some stocks used for planets were, NASA images of earth, self taken rock/stone textures. It's really a mix of a lot of techniques, including; photo-manipulation and digital painting... if i had to pigeon hole it i would say 'matte painting'.

If you don't m ind me asking, what program do you use to get some amazing detail and realism? I have been looking for stuff but my pieces look nothing like this. wow!

Not at all, i use Photoshop for my space scenes, i also take a lot of photos with my Nikon D3100. i "personally" feel that a high resolution image or canvas makes detail and realism easier to obtain as well.

I know its annoying to hear but, practice makes perfect so just stick at it and you'll develop your own style.

Thank you!

Outstanding work!
I love the lens flare! It looks amazing with those 'bars' (not bar like a night club, but like a,... bar, stroke)
And that the clouds cast shadow on the planet.
I don't want to be rude, but how do you do that lens flare, and how do you make clouds to cast shadows?
Awesome piece! ;)

Thank You very much :D
well you can make the lens flare in photoshop, and the add cloud shadows you can duplicate the cloud layer then invert it, change its blending mode to multiply and then move it away from the light source until it looks correct. if you dont understand i may make a few tutorials soon :D

Depending on what software, how do you make city lights like the bottom planet?

well i use photoshop CS5. and i use the noise filter with blending modes like screen + colour dodge... i also use Apophysis, to get randomness in the image.

Aw, I only have Photoshop Elements. Doesn't come with blending options. Would it work if I just rendered clouds and add noise?

Love the subtle use of color, it really makes this awe-inspiring. I also really like the way you can see the lights on the dark side of the planet!
